Nikki Corvette at World on Wheels.

Long before the Donnas turned 21, power-pop combo Nikki & the Corvettes conjured their own vision of teenage paradise, a neverland that was perfect for chasing "Boys, Boys, Boys" and having "Summertime Fun." Amid the sound and fury of the punk revolution, the Corvettes' 1977 single "Young & Crazy" (which was recently covered by the Bobbyteens, and included on the essential new Bomp CD compilation NIKKI AND THE CORVETTES) stood out as defiantly exuberant and willfully innocent, closer in spirit to Blondie than, say, the Sex Pistols. Although the Corvettes no longer exist, lead singer/heartthrob Nikki Corvette returns tonight for her first live appearance since 1984, backed up by simpatico local pop-punk gals the Pinkz. It's fitting that her comeback takes place at a roller-skating rink, as part of a big shindig (with some of L.A.'s grooviest '60s-retro bands) celebrating the release of pop-culture tome Bubblegum Music Is the Naked Truth: The Dark History of Prepubescent Pop From the Banana Splits to Britney Spears (Feral House). Tonight, even the guilty pleasures are innocent. (Falling James)
